I've been using laptops for over 15 years, and now I'm thinking about getting a second monitor for my MacBook Pro. I'm looking at something like a 34" ultra-wide, primarily for emails, web browsing, watching movies, and maybe gaming for just about an hour a year. I need some guidance on what specs to focus on since I only have size in mind so far. What are some mid-range specifications I should consider, especially since I'm working with a budget of $100-$250? I've noticed that many used LG 34" ultra-wide monitors fit within that range.

Before you decide, it’s a good idea to ask about your PC specs too, as they can influence what kind of monitor would work best for you. Just make sure it can handle the ultra-wide resolution.
You might want to check out monitors with an IPS panel for better color quality, especially if you want something that matches up well with your MacBook. A 3440x1440 resolution is good for a 34" ultra-wide too, and for your use, 60Hz refresh rate should work just fine. I've had a solid experience with Dell monitors, but LG also has nice ultra-wides. Just watch out for used ones and check their condition before buying. Good luck!
Are you planning to game at all? If you're looking for any gaming performance, you might want to double-check that the monitor supports decent response times too. But for your general use, as long as you get the IPS and the right resolution, you should be good! Also, don't forget to confirm if the monitor is compatible with your MacBook connections.

Just a heads-up, some MacBooks have mini LED screens, which might make an IPS panel look a bit inferior in comparison.
