I'm curious about the experiences of those who have transitioned from DataDog to Google's Observability tools. My company is making the switch primarily for cost reasons. At first glance, Google's offering appears to match up well with DataDog, but I'm concerned we might end up missing critical features after the transition is complete. Has anyone experienced this shift? What did you find lacking?

From our Proof of Concept with Google, we found that Google Observability relies heavily on open source tools like Prometheus and FluentD to really shine. We ended up investing a lot of time to set these tools up just to regain the functionality we were used to. In the end, the engineering effort needed was pretty significant and might not have been worth the switch.
I have my doubts about using anything from Google. My main concern is how long until they decide to ditch the product and leave us in the lurch? Seems risky to me.
Honestly, Google’s offering doesn’t hold a candle to DataDog. While it’s definitely more affordable, it feels pretty basic compared to what DataDog provides. If you're used to the capabilities of DataDog, this can feel like a downgrade.

You forgot to mention Microsoft! They have similar vibes, don’t they?
