How Can I Free Up Space on My Laptop?

I've got a laptop with only about 60 GB of total storage, and I'm struggling to free up space. I currently have three programs installed along with the essential Windows files and browsers, but I'm still left with less than a GB of free storage. I'm considering deactivating Windows to reclaim about 20 GB, but I'm unsure if that's the right move. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Have you explored the Storage settings in Windows? Go to Settings > System > Storage > Cleanup recommendations. That's helped some people manage their space better, but I get that you may have already done that.

I've checked that countless times, and it only lets me free up about 2 GB at most.

You might want to consider getting an external hard drive. They're affordable, and you can get a 1TB one for around 50€. It'll allow you to put all your larger programs and files on there, which would help free up your laptop's space.

That seems to be the popular suggestion! I think I'll go with that.

First off, check how much space is on your hard drive. Since your laptop has around 57 GB of usable space, it's likely that you're dealing with a pretty small drive, which is tough nowadays. You might want to use a disk cleanup tool and ensure you're deleting unnecessary system files to see if that helps.

I tried the cleanup tool, but it only freed up about 81 MB, which isn't enough.

It sounds like your storage situation is pretty tight for a modern laptop. Deactivating Windows isn't really the way to go unless you plan to switch to a lighter OS like Linux, but even that might not be worth it. Have you considered just upgrading to a bigger drive instead?

That's a good point! Where exactly can I buy a bigger drive?
