How can I access my old iPhone if I forgot the password?

I recently found my old iPhone, but I can't remember the password to unlock it. I've tried entering the password too many times, and now it's blocked. I do know the Apple ID email associated with it, but I've also forgotten that password since it's been quite a while. What steps can I take to reset it so I can use the phone again as a second device?

One option is to bring the original purchase receipt to an Apple Store. They have the ability to reset the device for you, so that's worth checking out!

I actually bought mine second-hand, so I don’t have that receipt.

Honestly, it sounds like you might be out of luck. If it’s locked and you can’t reset it, it’s pretty much a brick now. Just saying, but your post makes it seem like you might have gotten this iPhone in a sketchy way.

Seriously? It’s just an old iPhone 5!

You’ll need to reset the password for your Apple ID. It's best to do this through a computer and then restore your iPhone from there. It can be a bit tricky, but it should help you get back in!

I’ve tried resetting it, but I’m having trouble!
