Hey everyone, I'm really enjoying my time playing Minecraft with some mods and shaders lately—Complementary being my go-to at the moment. The downside is that my current GTX 1080 only gets about 22 FPS on my 4K monitor, which definitely takes away from the fun. I'm looking to upgrade my GPU so I can hit around 60 FPS in those settings. The RX 9070 has caught my eye because of its reasonable pricing and lower power consumption, which suits my 650 W PSU. Do you think the 9070 will cut it, or should I go for the 9070 XT or maybe a different card altogether? I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!
Current specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
- Memory: 32 GB 3200 MHz
- PSU: be quiet Pure Power 12 M – 650 W
- Monitors: 4K 24" as main, 1080p 24" as second one

That’s useful info, thanks! So you’d recommend a 750 W PSU even for the 9070? If I opt to get a new PSU, should I stick with the 9070 for efficiency or just go for the XT for the extra performance?
The RX 9070 XT is about 12% faster than the 9070. Just wondering, what's the price difference where you are?
I personally have the RX 9070 for Minecraft with Complementary Unbound shaders, and I get around 150 FPS (with some aggressive settings and temporal filters off). While your 650 W PSU should handle the 9070 well, keep in mind that it can have transient power spikes up to 450W, so a 750 W PSU is safer. If you're planning to overclock later, you might want to go for a PSU upgrade anyway. Basically, the 9070 is efficient and a solid choice, but the XT gives you a bit more power if you're okay with the cost.

I’d lean towards the performance of the XT if you can swing the price difference, especially if you’re using shaders heavily. It'll handle everything smoother and future-proof your setup a bit more.
