I recently upgraded to Windows 11 and while going through my installed apps to remove unnecessary programs, I came across one called "Wimsys." I couldn't find much information online about it, and it shows that it was installed on November 5, 2025, which is pretty recent. It doesn't display its file size either. It's located in the Program Files (x86) folder and contains files such as infile_x64.cab, msg.exe, msg.inf, uninstall.exe, and uninstall.tar. Could this be a virus?

Wimsys sounds suspicious! It might be an attempt at malware disguised as a legitimate program. I found that it could be a trojan horse that allows someone to control your computer remotely. It's best to run a scan with Windows Defender, and then use a different antivirus like Malwarebytes for a second opinion. Just to be safe, you might want to look into it deeper.
If you already scanned with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and found nothing, that's good. But just to be cautious, monitor your system for any strange behavior or performance issues, just in case Wimsys is capable of hiding itself. Keeping your system secure is key!
From what I've seen, it does seem like malware. I recommend doing a clean install of Windows if you suspect something is seriously wrong. It's often the best way to ensure your system is clean. Make sure to back up your data before you proceed!
