I'm eager to transition into the tech industry quickly, but I'm unsure where to start. Currently, I'm working as a closing manager at a fast-casual restaurant, and while I have a basic understanding of Linux and networking, I don't have any formal experience. Should I start applying for jobs even if I have no experience, hoping they'll provide training? What certifications would be beneficial for me to pursue first? I don't have any contacts in the field who can offer guidance, so I'm reaching out for help.

As someone who runs an MSP, I can say we often have entry-level positions available, and we're usually willing to train. Companies look for quick learners who can communicate well and show a genuine interest. If you find an MSP that’s willing to let you grow in different roles rather than get stuck in one position, that’s a good start. Highlight your experience in fast-paced environments like restaurants—those skills are really appealing to us.
Most likely, you'll need to begin in a help desk role. That’s how many people start out, and from there, you can work your way up. Look for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) in your area and apply there. They often hire entry-level positions and will train you on the job.

I went the same route—helpdesk to desktop support to server team. The progression was really valuable!
