What’s the Best Way to Achieve PCI Compliance If You’re New to It?

We're processing payments through Stripe and just found out we need to complete PCI compliance. I started looking at the self-assessment questionnaire, and it's packed with over 200 security-related questions that are a bit overwhelming for our team. I know we have a few options: hire a consultant, use compliance software, or handle it ourselves. Has anyone navigated this process recently? What do you think is the best approach? I'm mainly looking to get this sorted out so Stripe is satisfied and we avoid any disruptions. Appreciate any insights!

If figuring out PCI DSS seems daunting, consider using compliance automation platforms. They can simplify a lot of the workload for you. Just be ready for the requirements to be a bit of a hassle. Finding a good compliance tool might save you some headaches in the long run.

Don’t get caught up in the turbulence of compliance. A third-party consultant or compliance tool could be a huge relief. A tool can often handle evidence collection and keep things running smoothly on a daily basis, which can be much easier than paying a consultant by the hour for advice that you still have to apply.

Many people might urge you to go the consultant route, especially if the compliance landscape is new to you. Each Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) varies based on how your business handles credit card data, so it's important to figure out which one applies to you. Compliance software can sound enticing, but often it can't assess everything you need accurately.

Honestly, hiring a consultant is definitely the way to go if you're feeling lost. They can guide you through the maze of PCI compliance. Just be wary because not all consultants are created equal. Some might just repeat the rules, while others can be super strict or lax in their approach. Take your time finding the right one that meshes with your needs.
