What Happens to My Windows License When I Get a New PC?

I'm planning to give my current PC to my sister and buy myself a brand new one. My main concern is what will happen with my Windows license. I understand that either my sister or I will probably need a new product key, but I'm not entirely sure how it works. Is the key tied to my Microsoft account and also linked to the hardware, like the motherboard and CPU? If my sister uses the current key after I factory reset the PC, will that cause issues? Or will I keep the license and she'll need to get her own? Just to clarify, I'm getting a completely new computer, and I bought a digital Windows key when I originally built this PC.

You should be able to transfer your license to your new PC. If your sister gets another computer later, she can do the same. Otherwise, you’ll need a new key for Windows.

So, if the key is tied to my account, does that mean I can only use it on one PC? If it doesn't match the hardware, will it not work?
