Is My i5-13400F Slowing Down My 9070 XT in 2K Gaming?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using an i5-13400F paired with a Radeon RX 9070 XT, and I'm trying to figure out if my CPU might be holding back my gaming performance. Most of my games run smoothly, but in CPU-heavy titles like Battlefield 6, I've noticed some frame drops and stutters. Given that I play at 1440p (2K), I expected my GPU to handle most of the work, but I'm curious if the 13400F can keep pace with the 9070 XT or if it's just a slight mismatch. Would upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D make a noticeable improvement, or would this be overkill for 2K gaming? Alternatively, would a smaller upgrade to an i7-14700 be a more sensible choice? I'd love to hear from anyone with similar setups to see if the CPU is indeed the weak point here or if it's perfectly fine for 2K gaming.

It's possible your CPU is the bottleneck, but you might want to see how your GPU and CPU are performing together during those frame dips. When you experience stuttering, are you maxing out your GPU too? That would help determine if it's the CPU or the GPU being pushed too hard.

My GPU usage is around 100%, while the CPU sits at 80-90%. So, I guess that points to the CPU being a factor!

Your 13400F should work fine for 2K and even 4K gaming, but if you're looking for improvement, especially in the 0.1% and 1% low frame rates, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D could really boost your experience. I've seen a significant performance difference when switching from a 12400F to that chip, especially in low frametime metrics.

Check your GPU usage during gameplay. If it's not hitting the high 90s, you're likely experiencing a CPU bottleneck. It's a good indicator of where the performance issues might be coming from.

While many might say that your setup is okay as it is, I definitely noticed a boost in FPS and 1% lows after I upgraded from the 13400F to a 13600K. If you're willing to upgrade, I recommend at least going for a 13600K or a 14600K. The 9800X3D would be great too, though it's a whole platform change. My overclocked 14600K performs similarly to a 7800X3D in gaming.
