Why Can’t I Extend My D: Drive to Include Unallocated Space?

I'm trying to extend my D: drive by using some unallocated space I have, but the option to do so is greyed out. From what I've heard, this might be because the unallocated space isn't directly next to my D: drive. However, it looks like it is to me. Can anyone help me figure out what's blocking me from extending the volume? I also can't seem to upload an image to illustrate my setup.

You might need to share a picture of your partition table to get better advice. It's tough to diagnose without seeing how everything is arranged. Uploading to an image hosting site like Imgur could help us help you better.

Before you try to make any changes, do a complete backup of all critical files on your D: drive. It's essential to be cautious. Also, remember that if you're dealing with logical and extended partitions, there might be additional steps needed to expand them properly. It's a bit complex, but worth looking into!

Sometimes the built-in tools can be quite finicky. Consider using a third-party tool; they often provide clearer insight into disk management issues and could help you understand what's preventing you from making the changes.

Have you thought about booting from a USB stick with GParted Live? It's much more flexible than the default Windows disk management tools. Just make sure to back up your important files before you change anything.
