Should I finish my portfolio website or focus on learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript first?

Hey everyone! I'm a computer science student and got really excited about creating a portfolio website to showcase my future projects. I found a design I liked and ended up copying a lot of HTML and CSS code, but I haven't touched JavaScript yet. Now, I'm about 70% done with the project but feel stuck because I don't fully understand the code, and I'm lacking JavaScript knowledge. It's frustrating not being able to finish what I started. So, I thought it would be a good idea to pause and go through some tutorials on MDN to grasp the fundamentals first. Then, I could go back to my website. What do you think about this plan? Also, how long does it typically take to get the hang of the basics of these three languages? I'd appreciate any advice!

Honestly, if you've copied a lot of code for something that’s meant to show your skills, it’s time to rethink your approach. I’d recommend taking a solid course like Free Code Camp or The Odin Project. As for how long it takes to learn, it really depends on you. Make sure you focus on truly understanding the material rather than rushing through just to finish your site.

Totally agree! Take your time to really grasp the concepts. Learning isn't a race; it's about getting comfortable with what you’re doing!
