I'm currently running a 1070ti in my HTPC but want to upgrade for better performance. I've been gaming at 4K but getting only about 30FPS, which is not enough for me. I'm considering either a 6800XT or a 7700XT, as I'm planning to use Linux (Bazzite) with game mode enabled. The 6800XT I found is priced at $285 (after conversion), and the 7700XT is about $325. That extra $40 is significant for me, considering it's roughly two weeks' worth of groceries. Which GPU would give me better performance for 4K gaming at medium settings with at least 60FPS?

You might want to wait for Black Friday to snag a better deal, but if you're choosing now, I'd suggest going for the 6800XT since it generally performs better than the 7700XT. At around $285, that's a good price for solid 4K gaming performance.
The 7700XT offers performance that’s close to the regular 6800, but if you compare it to the 6800XT, the latter will give you a slight edge in performance. For your 4K gaming needs, the 6800XT might just be the better pick.
I own a 6800XT, and while it does show its age now, it's still capable of 4K 60FPS in some older titles without ray tracing. If you're using Linux, it sounds like VRAM is a concern for you, which could affect your FPS significantly. Just keep that in mind while making your decision!
I hear you on the VRAM issue! Currently, I can’t hit 30FPS on some games without running into trouble. For me, ray tracing isn't even an option since I mainly stick to games that run well on my main PC.

But the 9060XT is much pricier at around $450. Honestly, only lower-end cards tend to drop in price where I am, so I highly doubt that deal would benefit you.
