What to Do After Dropping My Phone in Water?

Last night, I accidentally dropped my phone in the sink. I quickly took it out and dried it thoroughly. After checking the charging port with a flashlight, it looked fine with no visible water. I didn't realize I should have turned the phone off and avoided charging it for 24 hours until I read some advice online later. I charged it and it worked well for about 30 minutes, but then it restarted the charging process. I didn't receive any warnings about water in the port, and after unplugging and replugging it, the phone wouldn't charge anymore. Instead, I got a message indicating a possible charger issue. Right now, I have the phone turned off since last night and I'm using my laptop to post this. I propped it up with the charging port facing down to help any remaining water drain out. I really need my phone for family, work, school, and for catching the bus. I'm worried it won't charge at all now. I've also heard that the rice trick is a myth. Any advice?

Depending on what type of water it was, residue might have formed in the charging port, preventing it from charging properly. You can clean it with a little rubbing alcohol, but be careful—using too much could cause more damage. Remember, liquid damage usually isn't covered by warranties, so if you go to a repair shop, they might charge extra.

Rice is actually a myth! Instead, try removing your phone case and shaking it to get any leftover water out—don't forget to take out the SIM card first! If you have silica gel packets, leave your phone turned off with them for as long as possible to absorb moisture.

If your phone supports wireless charging, give that a shot! Many smartphones can handle being splashed, but if it doesn't work, you might have to consider getting it repaired. Some people have found success using wireless chargers as a temporary solution until they can get their phone checked out at a service center.

Unfortunately, my phone doesn't support wireless charging. I'm currently talking to Best Buy support, and they're suggesting some cleaning methods for possible corrosion and also recommended keeping it in front of a fan for about 48-72 hours.
