Hey everyone,
Last weekend, my new iPhone was stolen while I was on the highway. It was linked to my Apple ID, and I quickly activated 'Lost Mode', but it took a long time for the command to actually go through. I've already reset my Apple ID password and changed my passwords for other important accounts like my bank and email. However, I'm really worried about Apple Pay since I have a credit card linked to my phone. If the thief somehow gets access to my phone, will they be able to use Apple Pay? Does it require my Apple ID password to reactivate, or can they just use the phone's passcode? I want to avoid canceling my card if I don't have to, especially since I'm flying to Tokyo next Friday and need my card for the trip. I also sent a command to erase my phone remotely, but it hasn't connected to the internet yet, so I'm not sure when or if that will happen. I'm feeling pretty bummed about the phone being stolen and would hate for the thief to use it or for me to miss my trip. What do you think I should do?

No need to stress! The thief would have to connect your phone to the internet to use Apple Pay, which would trigger the erase command as well. Keep 'Lost Mode' on and you should be fine.
When you added your card to Apple Pay, your bank assigned a new card number just for that. If your bank updates your card, they'll also update the one in your Apple Pay. Plus, if you erase your phone, your bank will be notified and they'll invalidate that card on the stolen device. So, everything should be alright! Enjoy your trip!
Exactly, as long as Lost Mode is active, Apple Pay is disabled, and even if they guess your passcode, it won't reactivate without your Apple ID password. I suggest just keeping an eye on things until you get back from your trip before canceling the card.
That sounds like a plan! I'll hold off on canceling my card until I'm back home.
As long as you have 'Lost Mode' activated, the thief shouldn't be able to access your Apple Pay. They would need either your passcode, your Apple ID, or somehow figure out your Face ID. So don't worry too much about that!
That's good to know! I just have a simple 4-digit passcode, which makes me a bit anxious. If they guess it, will Apple Pay reactivate by itself, or will it require my new Apple ID password?

Thanks for the reassurance! Since 'Lost Mode' is still active, I'm hoping everything's safe until I can get the erase command through.
