What’s the Best Linux Distro for Gaming on an Older PC?

Hi everyone! I have a desktop with an Intel Core i7-7700, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 1070. Since it's getting a bit old and currently running Windows 10, I'm thinking of switching to Linux for gaming on Steam, old console emulators, and maybe even Android emulation. This will be my first time installing Linux, so I'd like to know which distribution is best suited for my needs. I've heard about Nazzite or Nobara, but I'm not sure. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, it doesn't really matter which distro you choose. Most mainstream ones like Ubuntu or Mint will work perfectly for what you want. They all have solid support for Nvidia drivers and can run Steam and emulators without any hassle. The idea of a specially tailored 'gaming distro' is often just a regular distro with a few extra apps. Pick one that you find comfortable and has good documentation!

You might want to look into Bazzite, Mint, or whatever catches your attention. One key thing is to pay attention to your GPU—some distros like Pop!_OS offer special Nvidia versions, but make sure to choose the right ISO for your GTX 1070 to avoid compatibility issues with newer drivers since support for older GPUs is dwindling.

I personally found CachyOS great for light gaming on a setup similar to yours. But do keep in mind that it’s less crucial which distro you use; just pick one that appeals to you visually! Just avoid Garuda—it’s not the best for older hardware despite its looks.

You don’t need to stress over the massive selection of Linux distros out there. Stick to popular ones like Mint or Ubuntu, just like I did, and you should be set. They're user-friendly and have plenty of community support to help you out if needed.
