Should I Cap My FPS Below or Above My Monitor’s Refresh Rate?

I have an ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMG 27" monitor with a refresh rate of 240 Hz. While playing Apex Legends, my FPS fluctuates between 230 and 240. Can I set my FPS cap to something higher, like 250-260, without any negative effects, or should I stick to capping it below 240 Hz? I haven't experienced any stutters so far, and noise or power consumption isn't a concern for me. Just trying to make sure I'm optimizing my setup!

Remember, an FPS cap is a maximum, not a minimum. If you cap it too high, you might not see the benefits you're looking for.

If your monitor supports some form of VRR, definitely cap your FPS slightly below 240 Hz. This way, you can make the most of that feature and keep your gaming experience smooth.

Yeah, I'm team uncapped as well. Feels the best when gaming!

I say always leave it uncapped! My landlord pays for the electric, so I don't mind. Winning move, honestly!

It's generally better to cap your FPS just below your monitor's refresh rate. This helps ensure that your monitor stays within the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) range, which can reduce input lag. If you're not reaching your monitor's max refresh rate, capping your FPS higher won't boost your frame rate magically; it might just create unnecessary fluctuations.

I can hit 300 FPS easily. But when I cap it to 240, I still see drops to around 225-235 sometimes. Should I still aim for that cap?

Is that why we often see FPS caps like 59.99 or 143.99? It all makes sense!
