Why Can’t I Burn Files to My DVD-R?

I'm having trouble burning a TV show onto a stack of empty DVD-R discs. I've converted the files to .vob format and organized them in a folder named "Video_TS", just like I saw in a tutorial, but every time I try to drag the folder to the disc drive, I get a message saying that the DVD doesn't have enough space. The folder is 4.37 GB, and while the DVD should hold 4.7 GB, I still get an error indicating I need about 4 more GB of space. My computer shows the DVD has 4.38 GB free, which seems sufficient. Can someone help me understand why it won't work?

You might be running into a common issue when burning DVDs. It's possible that your computer's readout for available space isn't accounting for the actual usable space on the disc, which is often less than what's stated. Besides that, ensure there aren't any files already loaded in the drive waiting to be written. That could also hinder the process. Try checking that first!

Are you sure your disc isn’t already formatted? Even if there’s nothing showing, sometimes a disc can have files waiting to be written. Also, if you haven’t formatted the disc yet, consider doing that first just to be safe.

It sounds like you might be too close to the disc’s capacity limit. A standard DVD-R can hold about 4.37 GiB safely, so you’re cutting it pretty fine as mentioned, and you can't really overburn it. If it's rejecting the files, try reducing the size of what you're trying to burn.

Make sure you've got enough free space on your primary drive too! If you're using Windows, it needs space for a temporary folder while burning. This might be why you see a space issue. Just check that before trying again.
