How Can I Remove Microsoft Parental Controls from My Computer?

I recently graduated high school in Australia and purchased my computer from my school when I was in grade 10. After getting it re-imaged, I logged in with my Microsoft account without issues. However, ever since I bought Minecraft, I've faced limitations due to parental controls that restrict my ability to accept friend requests and join multiplayer servers. My mum has never activated these parental controls, and since I'll be turning 18 soon, she doesn't need to manage my account anymore.

Today, I had to re-enter my email password on my phone, only to find I needed parental consent to finalize my account, which led to my mum removing me from the Microsoft family settings, allowing me access to my email again. But when I returned to my computer, the issues persisted.

I consider myself quite tech-savvy, but I'm struggling with this parental controls situation. I've tried changing my principal owner profile to an administrator, but I can't delete the Microsoft Parental Controls package folder from File Explorer. Even using the Administrator Command Prompt has resulted in a 'file not found' error every time I try. I'm feeling hopeless and just want to have proper freedom on my computer without these restrictions. Can someone please assist me in resolving this?

It's frustrating when you're techie but still face these obstacles. Before doing anything drastic, check if there's any software associated with those parental controls on your computer like 'Microsoft Family Safety.' Uninstall that if you can. If you're still having trouble, you might need to reset your PC to get a clean slate.

Pro tip: While it's tempting to ask AI for tech support, it might not always give the best solutions! Have you tried doing a fresh install of Windows? It’s more drastic, but it can clear up lots of issues, including parental controls. Just make sure to backup your important files first!

If you're about to turn 18, you shouldn't need any parental controls at all. You can try going into your Microsoft account settings online and double-check if you're still listed under your mom's account. If you’ve been removed from the family settings, that should ideally lift any restrictions. If not, consider contacting Microsoft support directly; they might be able to help you clear out those parental controls from their end.
