Hey everyone, I'm looking for some help with a GPU upgrade. I've got an HP ENVY Desktop TE02-0042, which I bought a couple of years ago with an i9 and RTX 3070. I found a good deal and jumped on it. Now, I want to upgrade to an RTX 5070, but I'm a bit confused about the power supply setup. I noticed that my current RTX 3070 is only connected with one 8-pin power cable, which makes me think my power supply unit (PSU) only has that single PCIe cable available. Some folks have told me that I might need a new PSU to support the 5070. I'm not super knowledgeable about custom PC setups, so I need some clarity on a few things:
• Can my stock power supply actually handle the RTX 5070?
• Will I definitely need a new PSU?
• What cables or adapters are safe to use for this upgrade?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated—just want to make sure I do this right and don't end up damaging anything. Thanks!

Your PSU is rated at 800W, which is sufficient for a 5070 in theory. However, if you only found one 8-pin connector and no extras, you’re likely out of luck unless you upgrade your PSU. I checked, and your PSU does actually come with two PCIe 6+2 pin connectors, which should work for the 5070—assuming it needs 2x8-pin rather than 3x8-pin connectors. Good news is that your PSU conforms to ATX standards, so you have options if you decide to replace it!
First off, check if there are any unused cables coming out of your power supply. Sometimes there are extra connectors you might not be aware of. If you do have a few left over, that's a good sign!
I noticed a couple of cables that look like they connect to HDDs. What should I specifically look for? I can share pictures if it helps!

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify—what's the deal with 6+2-pin PCIe connectors? I thought GPUs used either a single 16-pin or a dual 8-pin configuration. How does the 6+2 setup fit in?
