What’s the Best Way to Structure All-SSD Storage for My New PC Build?

Hey everyone! I'm about to build a new PC, and I'm looking to switch to an all-SSD setup. Currently, I have a mix of storage: a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD for my OS and demanding games, a 256GB SATA SSD for lighter games, and two 4TB HDDs in a RAID 1 array for my files and photos. I prioritize having my files backed up since I make offsite backups every few months but want redundancy in between. I'm considering a few options for my new build but I'm unsure how to go about it. Here are my thoughts:

1. Get a new 1TB 990 SSD as my main drive, plus two 4TB 990s for storage and games, and use backup software to mirror them daily. This is a bit pricey.
2. Buy a single 4TB 990 to use as a boot, game, and storage drive and keep one HDD for backup.
3. I'm open to other suggestions! Are there programs that can mimic RAID 1 functionality for SSDs? Would love some advice!

Absolutely, SSDs can do RAID arrays! They're not commonly used in RAID for performance gains, but if you're looking for reliability, a RAID 1 setup can work just fine. You can set up this RAID configuration through your BIOS or in Windows. Just be sure to keep your backups as RAID is not a true backup solution on its own.

It's true that SSDs can technically support RAID, but the traditional need for it is less with SSDs since they're generally more reliable than HDDs. If redundancy is your goal, consider just using backup software to mirror your data from the SSD to an HDD instead of relying solely on RAID 1. This could give you peace of mind without the complexity of RAID.
