Hey folks! I'm new to programming and decided to dive into JavaScript by following a 22-hour course on YouTube from SuperSimpleDev. I'm already about 6 hours in, but I'm starting to wonder if I should switch to the OdinProject since I keep hearing good things about it. My question is: should I finish the SuperSimpleDev course or make the switch to OdinProject? Any advice from experienced programmers would be really appreciated!

You seem like you're concerned about the time commitment for OdinProject, and that’s valid. But finishing the SuperSimpleDev course could really help build your persistence, which is essential when you tackle a more extensive course like OdinProject.

Yeah, I'm okay with it taking time, as long as I feel it's worthwhile in the end.

You might want to check out freeCodeCamp instead. They have a solid JS certification that won’t cost you anything. Plus, courses like this can provide a better structure and measure your progress effectively, rather than just following along in a YouTube video. Just a thought!

Why do you prefer freeCodeCamp over The Odin Project though? Is it just for the certification, or is there more?

In my experience, any course or book will work as long as you grasp the basics to move on to real projects. Personally, I've learned so much by doing personal projects that incorporate what I learned from courses!

Worrying about whether you're learning the right way can be more time-consuming than just learning itself. If the YouTube course is working for you, keep going! You're likely going to explore multiple courses during your journey anyway. Just stay consistent, and you'll learn more over time!

If you're already 6 hours into the SuperSimpleDev course and it's resonating with you, I'd say stick with it! There's no wrong way to start, and once you finish, you can always explore OdinProject afterward. Just remember, building momentum is key!

Nothing against OdinProject, but you're going to hear folks say one thing is the best for getting started forever. If you keep swapping every time someone suggests a new course, you'll never make progress. Stay focused and keep going with JavaScript!

I've been in your shoes! I started with freeCodeCamp too, finishing HTML and CSS before jumping into JavaScript. Taking notes has really helped my understanding. I found structured courses more beneficial than just random YouTube videos since they often repeat concepts and reinforce learning!

Remember that understanding the fundamentals is crucial, so don’t rush into projects before you get a good grip on them. If you find you're repeating basics in projects, it might be worth skipping those parts later on.

My recommendation is to see your SuperSimpleDev course through to the end, then move to OdinProject. You’ll find that you can understand and benefit from the latter much better afterwards!

Finish what you started! It's important to see a course through to the end, especially since you're already invested.
