Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5 5600X to Ryzen 7 5700X Worth It?

I'm considering upgrading my CPU but I'm a bit lost since I'm not well-versed in computer specs. Here's what I currently have:

- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6 Core Processor
- NVidia GeForce RTX 3600 Ti
- RM Series RM750 — 750 Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified Fully Modular PSU
- MSI B550-A PRO AM4 ATX Motherboard
- 16GB DDR4 RAM (Planning to add a second stick to make it 32GB with one 8GB and one 16GB stick)

I'm aiming to upgrade my CPU for improved performance, preferably without needing to replace any other components. My budget is under $200 and I'm sticking with AMD. I'm eyeing the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core, 16-Thread, but I have no idea about thermal paste or whether this CPU is compatible with my current setup. Will this upgrade be beneficial, or should I explore other options?

It's interesting how you know you want to upgrade but feel lost about what you need. Upgrading to the 5700X seems more like an unnecessary step if you're not facing significant performance drops. Maybe stick with your current setup until something really compelling comes along.

Honestly, upgrading from the 5600X to the 5700X is not going to make a huge difference for you. It’s a pretty small jump in performance, and you might not even notice it in games. If you really want to see a performance boost, you might want to think about upgrading to the AM5 platform eventually or even a newer GPU. Also, going for 4 sticks of 8GB RAM instead of mixing sizes might give you better performance.

That's a good point! I'm feeling tempted to stick with what I have if the upgrade isn't essential. Maybe saving for a bigger upgrade later is the way to go.

You're in a bit of a tricky spot since the AM4 platform doesn't leave many upgrade paths without a full system overhaul. Upgrading to the 5700X won't give you a major boost from what you're already using. If you're experiencing performance issues, it might help to look into optimizing your current setup or tweaking game settings before spending on a new CPU.

I appreciate the advice! I might play around with some settings first and see if that helps before committing to an upgrade.
