Hey everyone! I spilled salsa on my HP Intel Core i3 laptop yesterday, and now it smells funny. It's still working fine, but I'm looking to clean it up. Can I safely take the keys off without causing any permanent damage? Would love any advice!

Removing the keys could break them, and chances are the liquid is deeper than just the surface keys. You might need a full keyboard replacement at this point.

If it’s a desktop keyboard, you can remove the keys, but take a picture first so you know where they go later. Don’t force anything; some keyboards aren’t designed for key removal. Just be gentle while cleaning!

Got it! I'll snap a pic first. Thanks!

Honestly, if you didn't clean it up quickly, you might want to just replace the keyboard. Keycaps on laptops usually aren't meant to come off without breaking. If you decided to try, just be cautious!

So, it's better to leave the keys alone? Thanks for the heads up!

I used to take apart keyboards for cleaning all the time, especially if spills happened. If you really want to try, drain the battery completely, flip the laptop upside down, and spray some contact cleaner on the keys before wiping them down. Just make sure to keep it upside down to avoid any further liquid damage.
