Is Upgrading My PC Worth It or Should I Just Get a New One?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out if I should try upgrading my current PC setup or just ditch it altogether. I have a budget of around 450-500 euros and primarily play League of Legends at 1080p. Ideally, I want to hit around 144fps while having Spotify running, without my frame rate dropping below 60 like it does now. I also do some light video editing on the side. Here's my current setup:

- Motherboard: Gigabyte AB350M-DS3H V2
- CPU: Athlon 200GE
- RAM: 2 x 4GB DDR4
- Storage: 240GB SSD
- PSU: 350W

What do you think? Can I make it work with upgrades, or is it better to start fresh?

Honestly, it might be better to build an entirely new PC within your budget. Your current components are pretty outdated. You could get a decent i5 and a graphics card that can easily hit 150 fps in League for around 500 euros. Plus, you'd need more RAM if you want to multitask smoothly with Spotify while gaming.

Sounds reasonable! But do you think any particular parts are a must-have for that budget?

For sure, I think going with a modern CPU and at least 16GB of RAM is key.

Before tossing your PC, think about repurposing it. You could turn it into a home server or something useful. Also, some local places buy old PCs for a bit of cash, so don’t throw it away just yet!

Great suggestion! I might explore that before making any decisions.

Definitely! Even as a backup PC, it could be handy.

If you're serious about upgrading, look for the popular Ryzen 5600 or any used GTX 1650 in addition to a new PSU. This combination should fit your budget and help you get a respectable performance while gaming and multitasking.

Solid advice! Should I flash the BIOS before considering any new CPUs?

GamingHubMaster -

Absolutely, definitely do the BIOS update for compatibility!

Upgrading is possible, but it might not be the best route. You could potentially swap in a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU and upgrade your RAM to 16GB, but your PSU is quite weak for any serious upgrades. You'd be better off investing in a complete system instead if you want good performance.

What about getting a second-hand setup? Would that save money?

DIYMaster42 -

Definitely! A used older system can often give you better performance for less.

I get the urge to upgrade, but honestly, there’s not much worth keeping from your current build. If it works, consider selling it instead of tossing it. You could also use it as a second computer for basic tasks.

TechieGamer99 -

Yeah, I was joking about throwing it out but it still runs okay for light tasks.

That’s a good point. Selling it might just be a better option!
