What resolution are you gaming at? That can really change what card might be best for you. If you're aiming for 1440p, you might want to save a bit more for a better option.
For brand new options below $300, look into the 3060 (12GB), B580 (12GB), or the 7600 XT (16GB). Avoid going for anything with 8GB or less VRAM if you want to keep up with newer titles.
