Which CPU Should I Choose for Gaming?

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I've narrowed it down to a few options: the 9600X for €160, the 9700X for €210, the 7800X3D for €260, and the 9800X3D for €340. I have a 3440x1440 180Hz monitor (I might upgrade to 240Hz in the future) and I'm using an RTX 5070 Ti. I can't seem to make a decision on which one to go for! Are the X3D models worth the extra €100-200 given my resolution?

I'd recommend the 7800X3D. It's great bang for your buck at €260, especially since it has good performance with the X3D cache. The difference to the 9800X3D is minimal for the price jump. If budget isn’t a constraint and you care about the absolute best, then go with the 9800X3D.

Honestly, all those CPUs are solid picks. If you're considering the X3D models, the 9800X3D is the top performer, but it's also pricier. For everyday gaming, the 9700X is excellent for multi-core performance and offers decent gaming capabilities, too. The 9600X is a good budget option, while the 7800X3D boasts a great power-to-performance ratio. If you're leaning towards the X3D, just know that the 9800X3D has a slight edge over the 7800X3D, but not much more in the gaming department.

If you're mostly gaming, the X3D models are really beneficial, especially for smoother performance. That said, the 9700X is a strong option if you also do a mix of productivity tasks, as it balances performance really well. But if it's purely gaming, go with the 7800X3D or 9800X3D, depending on your budget.

I think the 7800X3D hits the sweet spot for most gamers. It’s not going to break the bank while still giving you top-notch performance at higher resolutions. Trust me, the performance gap reduces the higher the resolution you go. Plus, you won't be left wanting for power with that GPU you're using!

At your resolution, the 9600X wouldn't hold you back much, but if you've got an RTX 5070 Ti, why not go for the 9800X3D? It might be worth the extra cash in the long run if you want to future-proof your setup. I think the 7800X3D is also a fantastic value for gaming without spending a fortune.
