Is SSD Speed Important for Gaming?

I'm curious if the speed of an SSD really makes a difference for gaming. I'm considering whether to invest in a faster SSD, ideally one that's around 7000 MB/s, compared to my current one that runs at 3500 MB/s. Would that upgrade be worth it for gaming, or is it not really noticeable?

For most gaming scenarios, the speed isn't a huge factor. Your tasks usually won’t bottleneck at the SSD speeds you’re looking at, especially for standard gameplay. Just focus on getting an SSD with TLC NAND flash instead of QLC to ensure better performance overall.

It really depends on how you use your computer. For basic tasks, like opening photos, you won’t see a difference. However, if you’re working with large files, like 4K video editing, then having that higher speed could be beneficial.

From my experience, faster SSDs can really enhance gaming, especially with modern titles that require quick load times. I switched from a slower SSD to an m.2 drive and noticed a significant difference. However, for casual gaming, it might not be a game-changer.

If you're primarily gaming, the difference might be minimal. There’s a new tech called DirectStorage that’s supposed to utilize NVMe speeds in games, but not many games support it yet. So while it can help with load times in certain titles, it largely depends on what games you play.
