Hey everyone! I'm considering an upgrade and I'm torn between getting a new GPU, specifically the RTX 5070, or upgrading my CPU. I've noticed that while playing Battlefield 6, my CPU (an AMD Ryzen 7 3700x) is running at 60-80% usage, which has me wondering if I should actually focus on upgrading the CPU first. I typically enjoy shooters like Battlefield 6, but I'm also into factory simulation games like Factorio and Satisfactory. What do you all think would be the best upgrade for my setup? Here are my current specs:
- Motherboard: MPG B550 Gaming Plus
- RAM: G.Skill DIMM 32 GB DDR4-4000 (2x16GB)
- GPU: RTX 2070
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x

Your monitor's resolution and refresh rate are also key factors here. Battlefield 6 is quite CPU intensive. If you're playing at 1080p 60fps, the RTX 2070 isn't terrible. But you might hit a wall with CPU and have to upgrade both eventually. Just something to keep in mind!
The RTX 5070 is definitely going to give you a huge boost in performance. I’d recommend upgrading the GPU first. Unless you find a really cheap upgrade to AM5, just stick with the 5070 and watch out for the 5800x3D CPUs to upgrade later. With 32GB of RAM, you should be good for a while!
Consider the 5070ti if you can afford it—extra VRAM can really enhance performance, especially at higher settings. But if it’s out of your budget, the 5070 will still provide a significant improvement.
I was thinking about the 5070ti too! I've read that the extra VRAM can be beneficial, especially for future-proofing.
For gaming, the GPU is usually the most important upgrade. If you're maxing out your FPS already, then upgrading the CPU won't help much. Just go for the 5070!
True, both upgrades are crucial for overall performance. If your CPU is holding you back, it won't matter how powerful your GPU is.

Right now, I'm at 1440p and I’m getting around 80 FPS on low settings. Just wondering if the CPU usage from Battlefield is really that demanding.
