Hey everyone! I'm gearing up to build my first gaming and productivity PC this winter. I'm eyeing a Gigabyte 7800 XT GPU and initially thought I'd pair it with a 7600X CPU and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. However, I'm now considering switching to an AM4 socket CPU to save about 300-400 CAD on RAM and motherboard costs. Is that a good move? My alternative would be to stick with AM5 but only go for 16GB of RAM to start, planning to upgrade to 32GB later on when prices drop. I know the performance difference isn't massive, but I'm also mindful that future upgrades might be pricier with AM4. What do you all think? Thanks for your insights!

Honestly, the 7800 XT is pricey right now, with brand new units going for over 350 USD. A used Gigabyte 7800 XT for around 500 CAD might be pushing it when you could look for alternatives like the 9060 XT. Just keep in mind the specs I mentioned; someone here can definitely help you figure out what’s best!
To help you out, what's your overall budget and what do you want to use this PC for? That could really influence the decision!
I'm looking at around 1500 CAD for the build, not counting peripherals. I plan to use it mainly for Adobe software like Illustrator and Premiere Pro, along with 3D modeling programs and gaming—I'm focusing on single-player titles with high-quality graphics.
If you compare the 5600X to the 7600X, you'll see a significant difference in gaming performance. The 7600X is roughly on par with the pricey 5800X3D. If you're aiming for 1440p gaming at 144Hz, a solid 5000 series CPU should do the trick for now.
I was actually considering a 1080p monitor instead, thinking a high-quality 1080 would be better than a mediocre 2K. I’ll do more research on that after my exams!
The top gaming CPU for AM4 is the 5800X3D, but the 7600X offers similar performance. So, if you go with AM4, keep in mind future upgrades might cost you more. Also, if you're set on the 7800 XT, just remember that it's last-gen now; maybe check out the 9070 instead for better value. If you can, share your PC part list for more specific advice!

The 9060 XT is worse than the 7800 XT, right? Are you suggesting I go for the 9060 because of better value with FSR4 and Redstone? I feel like the used market is getting tricky.
