Experiencing Stuttering on a New PC at 1080p: Is it a Bottleneck Issue?

Hey everyone! I just upgraded to a new PC featuring an RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 7 9800x3D, but I'm still using my old 1080p monitor while I wait for my new 1440p one to arrive. I've noticed some stuttering while playing certain games, which is surprising since I expected smoother performance with this setup at 1080p. The games I've tried so far aren't the most optimized, so that could be a factor. Additionally, I ran some benchmarks for Wukong and noticed the FPS averaging around 70 in the best graphics settings without using DLSS or Frame Generation. I don't think the game looks that impressive, so it feels odd to get such a low frame rate. I've heard that low resolutions can lead to CPU bottlenecking issues—how significant is this? Would my performance and FPS stability improve when I switch to 1440p? Thanks for any insights!

That’s a solid build you have! As for the stuttering, it could be a CPU bottleneck, especially at lower resolutions where the GPU isn't fully utilized. However, it might just be the games themselves causing the hiccups. Once you get your 1440p monitor, you may experience smoother gameplay as the resolution increases and the GPU takes over more of the workload.

It sounds like you might be dealing with a common issue with Unreal Engine 5 games. They can stutter when entering new areas because they are loading shaders, which is likely what you're experiencing with Wukong. I recommend trying a different game to see how it performs; you might find you can hit 300 FPS in something like Battlefield 6! So it could be game-specific rather than a problem with your setup.

Also, it's important to check your game settings and make sure everything is optimized. Even though you have a powerful setup, suboptimal settings can lead to performance issues. Make sure your drivers are up to date, and try lowering some settings to see if your FPS improves while you wait for that new monitor!
