Is My CPU Bottlenecking My New GPU?

I recently upgraded to a 5070ti after my old 1080 gave out after more than seven years. I'm still using my i7 8700k with an AIO cooler, but I'm noticing the performance increase isn't what I expected. Should I be considering a CPU upgrade? Just to note, I'm playing on a 1440p 144hz monitor.

You could definitely think about upgrading your monitor too. A higher resolution display can help take full advantage of your new GPU. Prices for RAM and monitors right now are pretty crazy, though! I got a 500Hz 1440p QD-OLED that wasn't too far from the cost of upgrading my whole setup.

1440p 144hz is a solid choice!

Seriously, is your almost 8-year-old CPU really the problem here? It makes sense that it's holding back performance.

Yes, that's why I'm asking! I’m not an expert and didn't realize how much of an impact a bottleneck could have. Thanks for the insights!

Honestly, if you're not happy with the performance at all, maybe consider returning the 5070ti and think about getting a 9070 or 9070xt along with a new platform.
