My laptop touchpad is acting up—any solutions?

I've been having trouble with my laptop's touchpad. It works fine in the BIOS menu, but when I boot into Safe Mode, it doesn't respond at all. After going through some troubleshooting steps with ChatGPT, I suspect that the touchpad's hardware isn't being detected, possibly due to a loose ribbon cable. I'm considering opening up my laptop to fix it, but I've never done that before and I'm worried about making a mistake. Is there an alternative solution I can try instead? Before you consider opening your laptop, why not try using the keyboard shortcut for enabling or disabling the touchpad? It might just be disabled by mistake. Check your manual for the specific key combination on your model!

It sounds like the issue might be more software-related rather than hardware. Since your touchpad works in BIOS, it’s less likely to be a hardware problem. You could try looking into your touchpad drivers or settings. Make sure your drivers are up-to-date from the manufacturer's website. That might help resolve the issue in Windows.

Definitely check your drivers! If it's still acting up, you might also want to see if anything's showing as an error in Device Manager.

When you're in Safe Mode, only basic drivers load, which might be why your touchpad isn’t working there. Make sure you're testing it in regular mode. If you're still having issues, maybe give a USB mouse a try for now while you troubleshoot the touchpad.

Good point! Also, if nothing works, sometimes resetting the touchpad settings might help.
