Looking to Upgrade My PC for Better FPS in Competitive Games

I'm a competitive FPS gamer currently using a 165Hz monitor, but I'm struggling to even reach 165 FPS. In Fortnite, I'm averaging around 140 FPS on the lowest settings, and CS2 is about the same. Given my current specs—an i7 7700k CPU, RTX 3060 GPU, 16GB of 3200Mhz RAM, a WD Blue SA510 1000GB SSD, and a Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard—I feel like it's time for an upgrade, but I'm not sure which part is holding me back. I've done full Windows optimizations and have even factory reset my PC, but my FPS barely improved. Additionally, after playing games for extended periods, my browser applications (like Twitch and YouTube) freeze temporarily before returning to normal. Any insights on what might be causing these issues would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your CPU might be the main culprit here. It's getting a bit old, and since you're playing competitive games on low settings, the game is likely pushing your CPU to the limit to maximize FPS. You might want to consider upgrading to a newer CPU, which would also require getting a new motherboard.

I've noticed that playing on low settings can create a CPU bottleneck as it puts more strain on your processor. If you're looking to upgrade, you'll likely need to consider changing your CPU and motherboard altogether for a significant boost in performance. Just be prepared for a little extra cost.

Honestly, it seems like it's time to modernize your CPU and motherboard, and possibly even the RAM. Those older components may not keep up with newer games effectively. You’ll definitely notice a difference once you upgrade.

Alright thanks, any CPU recommendations for 100-150 USD?
