Hey everyone, I recently bought two 10TB Toshiba SATA hard drives without realizing I needed USB-compatible ones for my colleagues. Now that I can't return them, I've tried a couple of SATA to USB adapters, but I'm struggling to get the drives recognized. One adapter requires separate power but doesn't show up in Windows, and the other doesn't seem to work at all. I've also connected them directly to my PC with no luck. Am I missing something here? Are there any reliable adapters or enclosures you would recommend, or should I just switch to USB hard drives instead? Thanks for your help!

It sounds like you might need to initialize those drives. Sometimes, new hard drives need to be partitioned before they show up. Have you checked Disk Management in Windows? If the drives are unallocated, you can format and partition them from there!
Honestly, a good quality external SATA enclosure would be your best bet. They handle the power and connection properly, making it simpler to use your drives as external ones. Don’t forget to check the power requirements!
It's normal for the drive to require external power if you're using a SATA to USB adapter. You might need to initialize the disk in Disk Management after connecting it properly. Let me know if you need help with that!
Check out "3.5 inch hard drive enclosures" online; they have a ton of options that are pretty affordable, usually between $15-30. They’ll let you easily connect those SATA drives to USB.

Yeah, that's a common oversight! It's worth a shot.
