Is a 500W PSU Enough for an RX 5700 XT?

I'm considering getting an RX 5700 XT and I'm wondering if my power supply will be enough. I have a Csonic 500W power supply, which provides 408W on the 12V line. I'm planning to set the power limit to 80-85% and undervolt it using MSI Afterburner. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600, also undervolted, and I plan to cap the fps at 66 while gaming at 1080p. Will this setup work, or should I look for something else? I just bought my PC and haven't purchased the GPU yet, so I'm hoping to keep costs low!

Yeah, a 500W PSU should be enough for your setup! I've run a similar GPU with a 450W PSU without any issues. Just keep an eye on power consumption; tools like PCPartPicker can help you get a rough estimate. They often overestimate the power needed just to be safe, so don’t stress too much if your calculations are lower than what they recommend.

Thanks! That eases my mind a bit.

Just a heads up, your power supply is over 15 years old! While it might have worked fine back in the day, I wouldn't fully trust it with a powerful GPU like the RX 5700 XT. You might want to consider getting a newer model. A reliable 500W PSU from this era would definitely handle your Ryzen and 5700 XT, just make sure it has the right connectors.

I appreciate the advice! I’ll look into getting a newer PSU.

To really figure it out, have you tried using one of those PSU calculators online? Input your whole build and see what wattage it suggests. It gave me a rough estimate of about 370W for my rig, which was pretty spot on.
