I'm in the process of building a new gaming PC and I've hit a snag with my CPU choice. I currently have a Ryzen 7 7800X3D that I bought for €360, but I can return it and pay an extra €70 to upgrade to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D for €430.
My setup features:
- CPU: (either going with the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D)
- GPU: ASUS ROG Strix RTX 5070 Ti (which I'm planning to buy)
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI
- RAM: G.Skill DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO (32GB)
- SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0
- PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 13M 850W
- Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Elite
- Case: Fractal Design North XL
My focus is mostly on gaming, like Dota 2 and SCUM, and I dabble in some AAA titles. I'm not aiming for high-performance competitive gaming or doing any productivity tasks. I also plan to learn Java programming on it.
I've seen online that the 9800X3D offers around 5-12% better performance, with some improvements in 1% lows and reduced stuttering in certain games. However, I wonder if that slight performance boost is worth the price difference, especially since this is a high-end build and I don't want to regret my choice later. Would I be better off sticking with the 7800X3D and saving some cash, or should I opt for the 9800X3D for a bit more peace of mind? I'm curious to hear thoughts from anyone who has experience with both CPUs!

Honestly, I’d just go for the 9800X3D. If you're already thinking about it this much, you might end up regretting not getting the newer model later on. Plus, an extra €70 isn’t a huge deal in the long run, especially with a high-end build.

Totally get what you're saying! I'm learning that sometimes the stress of overthinking it isn’t worth the couple of bucks saved. Better to just enjoy the upgrade and not sweat it!
