Is It Possible to Rebuild My Wix Website on a Budget?

Hi everyone! I'm an indie author, and I've been using a Wix website for the last three years. I initially got a good deal on the custom domain and premium plan, but now my renewal is coming up, and I'm feeling the financial pinch. The cost is about £345.60 for three years for the premium plan and an additional £85.80 for the domain, which is starting to feel steep, especially since I don't make much from my writing.

I've loved Wix for its user-friendliness; I can customize my site without needing to code, which has always intimidated me. However, I've realized that Wix won't let me export my site if I wish to switch platforms, and that's a bit worrying. So, I'm exploring cheaper or free alternatives that would allow me to recreate my website without diving into code.

Are there better options out there that are easy to manage? And if I do want to have a different site, would it be more cost-effective to hire someone to build it, and would that end up being as pricey as my current premium subscription? I'm really looking for any realistic suggestions that could help me out. Thanks for your advice!

I agree with the previous comment about costs, but I think Google Sites could be a solid alternative for you. You can build a second site without connecting your domain just to see if it works for you. If it does, you could switch your existing domain over and save on hosting fees!

I totally understand the coding intimidation! Just like with any trade, learning some basic coding can help you with your site. If you prefer to skip that, check out Hostinger, which offers a website builder for £1.95 a month and allows custom domains. It's a simple solution that could work for you without worrying too much about coding!

It sounds like your costs are around £10-15 a month, and honestly, you might have a tough time finding anything cheaper with a user-friendly editor like Wix. Have you thought about checking out platforms like Squarespace? They might be in the same ballpark for pricing. If you're really looking to cut costs, you could create a static site using something like GitHub Pages for free, but it would require some basic web development knowledge. Just a thought!

Monthly plans could work well if cash is tight right now. I know it might end up costing more overall, but smaller, regular payments can sometimes ease the burden. You might find building on WordPress (especially the .org version) a good option. Sure, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but you can use free themes and plugins. Plus, consider asking a friend who knows WordPress for some help—friends can save you a lot of hassle!

For low-budget options, you might explore recreating your site with Cloudflare Workers if you expect low traffic. It’s quite economical and could serve your needs without much hassle! Let me know if you're curious about this, and I can help explain.
