I'm getting ready to buy my first MacBook Pro and found a great deal on a brand new M4 Pro with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD at a third-party store. However, when I checked the serial number on Apple's check coverage page, I received a message saying, "Unable to verify serial number. Please try again." Has anyone experienced this before? Does this indicate the MacBook might be stolen, not activated, or is there another reason? What should I look for before I proceed with the purchase?

I'd recommend passing on this one, especially if you're considering AppleCare. This happened to me before with a used device, and after a lot of hassle, I had to swap it out. Not worth the risk!
If the message says "Unable to verify serial number," that could be concerning. It might mean the device hasn't been activated or even that it's stolen. If you're planning to get AppleCare for it, I'd be cautious. I had a similar issue with a used iPad Pro and had to exchange it since the store and Apple support couldn't resolve it. Better to be safe than sorry!
