I'm looking for advice on upgrading my PC without breaking the bank. I don't have much experience with building or upgrading. Is it possible to just buy a newer graphics card to boost my performance? If so, what's a reasonable option for a budget of $300 to $400? If a graphics card upgrade isn't feasible, what steps should I take to improve my PC instead? Here are my current specs:
- Ryzen 5 2600 6-Core 3.4 GHz
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 TI 6G
- 500G SSD
- 32 GB DDR4 (I upgraded this a few years ago)
Thanks for any help!

You can definitely grab a new GPU to enhance your gaming experience. I’d recommend the 9060XT 16GB for solid performance, but keep in mind that it could stretch your budget a bit. If you want to play it safe and save some cash, the 8GB variant is also an option, although it might not hold up perfectly in some titles at 1080p. Overall, I think getting a 5600 with a B580 motherboard could be your best move while staying within budget.
First things first, what power supply do you have? It’s essential to make sure it can handle the new GPU you wish to install. If the specs support it, look for a used Ryzen 5600; I've seen them go for around $120 on eBay. Pair that with a used RTX 3070 or 3080, though the latter might push you a bit over your budget. Just a heads up!
If you want to balance your upgrade budget between CPU and GPU, consider getting a used Ryzen 5600 or 5600X, whichever is cheaper. You could even sell your Ryzen 2600 to help with costs. Then, look for a decent GPU on the used market. Also, after your upgrades, don't forget to use a tool like OCCT to run a stress test and check for stability!

Totally agree! You can score some great deals on used parts—found a 5600x for about $95 and a 3080 for around $325. Definitely worth checking out!
