Best Linux Distro for an HTPC Setup

I'm currently using a NUC box as my HTPC, alongside a Shield and various ONN boxes and an Apple TV 4K. I love the smoothness of my setup with 16GB of RAM—it really enhances the user experience, and the picture quality is fantastic! Right now, I'm using Windows but I'm considering switching to Linux. I'm specifically looking for a distro that allows me to place large shortcut icons on the home screen—I'd rather not hunt for apps in the taskbar. Essentially, I only use three apps: Plex, Kodi, and YouTube. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

You might want to explore LibreELEC. I recently flashed it on my device, and it handles all my Plex content smoothly. It might also take care of any video and audio demands you have without issues. However, YouTube isn't included, just a heads up!

Sounds good! I actually installed LibreELEC last night and it works like a charm for streaming. No issues with VOD either!

If you want a bit more flexibility, try Manjaro. It allows you to install Kodi along with Firefox. Use Firefox with uBlock Origin and SponsorBlock for a smooth YouTube experience while managing Netflix and Hulu. Plus, you could also add Retroarch if you're into gaming!

Definitely check out Kodi for your HTPC—it's a solid choice and works really well on Linux. Plus, it runs great on devices like the Raspberry Pi using LibreELEC.
