Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my PC for the holidays but I'm on a budget. I currently have an RTX 3070, an Intel i5-12400F running at 2500 MHz, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm mainly into emulating games but I also want to ensure I can run modern titles above 60fps with no stutter. Should I invest in an i9 processor or go for 32GB of DDR5 RAM?

In the long run, an i5 with 16GB of RAM might bottleneck modern games once developers optimize for better hardware. However, for now, upgrading the GPU would probably yield better performance gains.

RAM prices have skyrocketed lately! You might want to consider that, as the window for budget upgrades might have closed.

Yeah, I heard prices are expected to stay high. It’s better to grab what you need before they go up again!

Why go for the i9 if you’re not having issues with your current setup? Consider waiting and upgrading all components together for a more balanced system. Seems smarter unless you're really facing performance problems.

Your current motherboard is DDR4, which is a blessing for you. You’ll need to get new 2x16GB DDR4 sticks, and also, be cautious with your motherboard's temperature management. It has weak VRMs that may not handle high-performance CPUs well, like anything beyond the i5-14600k.

If you’re currently using DDR4, you can’t just switch to DDR5 without getting a new motherboard. Honestly, I’d suggest picking up a 32GB DDR4 kit for better performance, and maybe look into a more powerful GPU like an RTX 5070 or RX 9070.

I didn’t know that! I thought I could just swap out for DDR5. Thanks for clarifying!
