I'm using an RDNA 3 AMD GPU and recently chose Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for ROCm support, as I also need Python 3.12. While I'm okay with the LTS version, I can't access HDR when gaming with Plasma 5. I'm wondering two things: 1. Is it safe to upgrade to Plasma 6? 2. Considering I have work coming up on my 7800XT, will the 9070XT perform well with PyTorch?

Have you considered switching to Kubuntu instead? It's basically the same as Ubuntu but comes with KDE Plasma out-of-the-box, which might give you access to HDR features more seamlessly. That could be a simple fix for your gaming needs!
Just a heads up, if you want the latest features of KDE, you might want to go for a more recent distro or even a rolling release like Tumbleweed. That way, you'll always have the latest KDE without having to worry about support issues. But keep in mind that ROCm is officially supported only on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or RHEL, so that could complicate things if you switch.
Good to know! I’ve heard of people making it work on Arch or Fedora, but as you said, newer kernels aren’t as tested for ROCm.

Yeah, I’m on Kubuntu but still stuck with Plasma 5.
