Hi everyone! I'm looking for advice on how to convince my mom to switch from Windows to Linux. Lately, I've been frustrated with Windows 11 since it's been bogging down my PC with AI features and using up all my RAM. I've been thinking of installing Fedora, but ran into some issues with EFI partitions, and I wonder if switching is the best route anyway. My mom is really not a fan of change, so I think she'd need a solid tutorial from me to make the transition smoother. Any tips on how to approach this and suggestions for the most user-friendly Linux distribution?

Honestly, I'd recommend against forcing the switch. If she’s happy with Windows, maybe consider upgrading her RAM instead. But if she’s curious, just ease her into it with something like Linux Mint or Zorin OS. They’re user-friendly and don’t have all the extra stuff that might overwhelm her.
Check out the migration resources online; they have pretty good guides. Zorin and Linux Mint are both great picks for beginners. They’re very user-friendly! If she only needs basic functionality, Mint with the XFCE desktop environment could be perfect—keeps things simple!
I switched my partner to Linux Mint without any fuss. She enjoys streaming and just needed Google Chrome installed—super easy transition! If she really hates change, keeping her setup as familiar as possible is key.
It's ultimately your mom's choice what OS she wants. If she’s resistant to changing away from Windows, it might make things worse. Some of those new AI features can be uninstalled, and I think Copilot can be removed too if that's a concern.
You could try using a Windows 11 debloater script to get rid of some bloatware and AI features without switching OS. It’s a relatively simple PowerShell script that can help free up some of that RAM. But if you’re set on transitioning to Linux, Linux Mint might be the best pick for a Windows-like experience, which could help smooth the change for your mom.

That's an interesting suggestion about the debloater. But if switching is inevitable, I totally agree that Linux Mint's interface could really help her adjust.
