I'm thinking about making the switch from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6. My internet plan offers 300 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload, and I'm able to hit those speeds when using a wired connection on my laptop. However, when I'm on Wi-Fi, my phone typically only manages around 50 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, and at times, it drops down to 20 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. I live in a medium-sized house, so coverage isn't really a concern, but with over 10 devices connected (including a TV, a PS4, 3 laptops, 6 phones, and 2 tablets), I'm wondering if upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 could help improve my speeds and stability. Just to add, I have a fiber-to-the-home connection, and my wired speeds are consistently stable at the full plan rate, indicating this issue seems tied to Wi-Fi performance.

Wi-Fi 5 can easily handle speeds up to your plan's limit, so your phone might be the culprit here. If it's older or has a slower processor, that could explain the lower speeds you're seeing. Upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 might not make a noticeable difference for you.

I have an iPhone 14, could that still be the issue? I’ve done speed tests on other phones and they show similar results.
