Why Do My Samsung SSDs Show Up as “SSD 1TB” in BIOS and Windows?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my Samsung 870 EVO SSD. It shows up as "SSD 1TB" in both the BIOS and Windows, whereas my older Kingston drives are recognized by their actual names with no problems. I've had two Kingston drives for two years, and they're working perfectly. However, all the Samsung drives I've bought recently, even from different sellers, are labeled incorrectly and fail after just a few days of use. I've updated my BIOS and even replaced the cables, but nothing seems to help. I'm really at my wits' end here. Could something be wrong with the drives, or is it possibly a bad batch?

You've definitely got a weird situation there, and it’s not typical for Samsung drives to act that way. It could be useful to share pictures of the drives to help determine if they're authentic or not. Just to clarify, have you checked if they match the usual markings of legit Samsung drives? Getting them from different vendors but having the same issue seems really odd.

Yeah, I agree! Seeing those pics would help a lot. It could reveal if they’re fake or if there’s an actual defect affecting a batch. Let’s get to the bottom of this!

Definitely! If you share the pictures, we can check for any red flags that might indicate they're not the genuine article.

It sounds like you might have gotten unlucky with either counterfeit drives or a bad batch. Are you purchasing these from reputable sellers? Sometimes, third-party sellers can mix up stocks, which might lead you to think you're getting genuine products when they're not. Also, don't hesitate to return them if they are still under warranty. It's totally worth reaching out to the seller about this issue!
