I have an Asus Prime B550M-K motherboard currently running AMI BIOS version 3001. The latest available BIOS update is 4001. I've had my PC since February 2, 2023, and I've never bothered to update my BIOS, as I usually stay out of that area. The reason I'm considering updating it now is that I'm experiencing high ping issues while gaming, and I found that an outdated BIOS could potentially be a contributing factor. I also don't have a USB flash drive at the moment and I'm unsure of how to choose one that supports FAT32 formatting.

Most flash drives come formatted as FAT32 by default, so you shouldn’t need to worry. Also, updating your BIOS can definitely provide important security patches after two years. However, if you're having high latency in games, it's probably more related to your network connection rather than the BIOS itself.
I recently upgraded my WiFi from 5 to 6E and it was great for a bit, but I still ran into the same high ping issues later on. It seems like the timing might be seasonal or due to having a lot of users on the same network. I've faced similar issues with my own internet around this time every year.
You can use just about any USB stick for a BIOS update. I usually just wipe any partitions and create a 2GB FAT32 partition for the BIOS file. It’s been trouble-free for me when booting into the BIOS after that!
High ping is usually related to network issues, like your WiFi setup or Ethernet connection, rather than the BIOS. You might want to look there instead.
