Should AIO pump fans run constantly at full speed or throttle down like regular case fans?

I'm looking for some clarity on how AIO pump fans should operate. Should they be throttled down like standard case fans, or do they need to run at full speed? I came across conflicting advice; some sources say AIO pumps should run at 100% or nearly full speed, powered consistently and not tied to temperature. In my BIOS, the AIO pump is set differently from my other fans, which are on a smart speed setting. I attempted to use the smart speed function for the pump, but it didn't seem to respond, so I wonder if it's intended to function this way.

I usually set my AIO pump at around 70-80% while managing other fans based on BIOS. I avoid using fan curves for pumps since I believe they're unnecessary. Just let the fans handle the temperature fluctuations!

Totally agree! The pump should just keep a steady flow, while fans can adjust as needed.

If you're adjusting speeds, ensure you have the right connections. Some setups run the pump at full speed if they’re improperly connected. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper performance.

Good point! I had a similar experience until I checked my connections.

Key takeaway is to check everything twice before assuming it's faulty!

I typically go for a static pump speed. Start at 100% and dial it down until the noise is acceptable. It's all about finding that balance!

Everyone has their preferences. For my first AIO, I just let the pump run at 100%. Now, I keep it at 80% unless the temperature really spikes—then I bump it up to 100%. However, I've learned not to let it constantly fluctuate like my fans do.

It's best to set your AIO pump to a static speed between 80-100%. Unlike case fans, pumps aren't designed to ramp up and down based on temperature, so keeping it at a constant speed ensures it effectively circulates the coolant.

That sounds right to me. The pump is more consistent than a fan, but some software like iCue does allow for slight adjustments.

Why can't pumps adjust speed like fans? Isn't that a design flaw?
