Looking for Advice on Choosing a New GPU: Is the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti a Good Buy?

Hey everyone! I recently had to give my 2070 Super to a family member who needed it for work, so I'm on the hunt for a new GPU for myself. I've been eyeing the Ventus 2X OC Plus GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of memory, which is normally priced around £419. Thankfully, there's a 20% discount right now, bringing it down to about £340. I'm mainly looking to use this for VR and some AAA games, and I prefer to stick with Nvidia.

Before I commit to this purchase, I wanted to check if there are any significant downsides to going for this card or if there are better options out there with similar price and performance. Here are the specs of my current setup:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K (3.6 GHz, 8-Core)
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
- PSU: Corsair RM650x (650 W, 80+ Gold Certified)
- Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING ATX LGA1151
- Case: Fractal Design Define R6 ATX Mid Tower

You should seriously think about boycotting Nvidia due to their stance on current issues. For alternatives, I'd recommend the 9060 XT or looking for a deal on a 9070. You won't regret going that route.

I get your point, but if I'm sticking with Nvidia, I really want to maximize performance with whatever I choose.

Honestly, the only real contender against the 5060 Ti 16GB is the AMD RX 9060 XT. However, if you find the 9060 XT for a similar price, I'd suggest sticking with the Nvidia card. It's popular mainly for its price-to-performance ratio. Just a heads up, your current CPU is getting a bit old, and the LGA1151 socket only supports up to Intel's 7th generation. It should work fine for now, but you might need to consider upgrading your motherboard and CPU down the line.

Your setup is starting to show its age, but it can still handle some gaming. If you’re going to upgrade the GPU, consider the AMD 9070 16GB. It's faster and has a wider 256-bit bus compared to the 5060 Ti's 128-bit. If you want Nvidia, you might want to wait for the 5070 Ti, but keep in mind your CPU and platform are likely to bottleneck performance. If you plan on using VR, having at least 16GB VRAM will be beneficial.

Usually, I'd back the 5060 Ti 16GB, but keep in mind it's on a PCIe 5.0 x8 interface. On your current motherboard, that could lead to some performance loss. I suggest you look at the 9060 XT 16GB instead, as it comes with a PCIe 5.0 x16 interface, which will give you better performance. The performance drop on the 5060 Ti with x8 compared to x16 is about 10%, but negligible when both are on the same generation slot.

I recently upgraded my son's rig with a 5060 Ti 16GB paired with an i7 10700KF, and it performs amazingly. I'd definitely recommend it for a solid gaming experience! 👍
