I have a ROG Crosshair Hero V8 with an AMD Ryzen 3950X, an EVGA 3080, and a Seasonic Prime TX850. Everything has been running smoothly for years, but I encountered some problems while playing Claire Obscura Expedition 33. The game crashed several times, causing a full black screen with no signal to the monitor. After adjusting the game settings to ease the load on the graphics card, I found that pressing the reset button didn't work to restart my computer; it just shut down hard instead.
I tried unplugging the computer for an hour, but now it won't turn on at all. I performed a paperclip test on the power supply after disconnecting it from the motherboard and GPU, and it powered the water pump without issues. The start button on the motherboard lights up, indicating it's receiving some power, yet there's no response—no lights, no fans, nothing. I even disconnected the front panel buttons, thinking they might be stuck, but still no luck. I've hit the CMOS and BIOS buttons on the motherboard too. Could my motherboard be completely shot?

It sounds like your CPU and GPU are likely fine, and your power supply seems to be working based on your tests. The most probable culprit here is the motherboard itself—it might be bricked. You might want to look into the CPU VRM stage or the board power controller as possible failure points. Unfortunately, those kinds of damage are usually not repairable.
Have you tried draining the capacitors and removing the CMOS battery for a bit? That can sometimes reset things, but it sounds like you’ve already attempted that. If it didn’t work, you might want to consider the motherboard replacement route...
I gave that a shot, but unfortunately, it didn’t make a difference. Just feeling stuck at this point.

Ugh, I feel for you. Dealing with motherboard issues is such a hassle, especially since you have a custom water cooling setup. Have you checked if the motherboard tries to start at all? It’s frustrating when it doesn’t even respond.
